OUR TOP 5 RUNNING SHOES

2020 has seen a lot of people take up running for sport and health reasons, but also as a way to let the weight of the pandemic season feel a little lighter. With the increasing number of runners, so does the re-appearance of the age-old question: What is the Best Running Shoe? Here’s our answer: there is no “best” running shoe.

Running shoe

Each individual is unique, meaning everyone’s running shoe requirements are different. With different people come different feet, toes, arches, ankles, and shins. These differences in traits mean that there are multiple running shoe options available for everyone.

We think the best thing to do when you’re looking for the right running shoe is to get fitted and tested at a certified running store. There they’ll measure your foot size (width, length and all), assess the way you run and ask you questions about your runs and what you’re looking for in a shoe. Then, they’ll provide you with some great suggestions and their professional opinion on which shoe they think is best for you.

When choosing a running shoe, you first need to realise what the shoe is going to be used for. Will you be running on roads, grass or on the trails? Will you be doing low-impact long runs or high-impact interval training? Do you need extra ankle support? Do you have narrow feet? Do you prefer to feel like you’re running barefoot or on clouds? The answers to these questions are entirely preferential and unique to you. Only when you have answers to these questions can we start talking about the “best” running shoe for you.

Here are some running shoes to look out for when you’re out on your mission to find the right shoes for you, and some quick notes on them:

The Bondi’s are CHUNKY. These bad boys are thick and provide next-level cushioning. Overall, the shoes provide a soft ride but has some durability concerns because of the upper mesh.

HOKA ONE ONE BONDI 6

These shoes are KNOWN for being supremely comfortable. The extra cushioning on the heel and the airy yet supportive upper is highly favourable to a lot of runners. However, some people find this shoe is too heavy and a bit too on the expensive side for its worth.

Adidas Ultaboost

The Epic Reacts are a shoe that just looks good on everyone’s feet. Their style is modern and has a smooth-fitting upper. This is a cushioning shoe however it is more on the expensive side and the exposed foam reduces shoe traction and durability.

Nike epic react fly knit

This is an incredibly sturdy shoe with an appealing design. Overall, they are very comfortable and have a springy toe-off. However, some find that the shoe slightly loosens miles into the run.

Brookes adrenaline GT

This is an incredibly sturdy shoe with an appealing design. Overall, they are very comfortable and have a springy toe-off. However, some find that the shoe slightly loosens miles into the run.

Asics gel-cumulus
